Bio

Erik Amin has always been attracted to knowledge. This desire has come to him through a few related disciplines. First was the love of science and mathematics, but in his teenage years, the spell of music enchanted him, so he became a drummer. And later in life while studying physics in college, he fell in love with martial arts. To Erik, all these endeavors are really very similar and through all of them Erik has always found himself a teacher shortly after starting the study of each. 

Filmmaking came after finishing college when Erik was trying to fit into society. It was a very difficult task for him to pin down. Each potential career seemed to eliminate the other aspects Erik had come to rely on for his own happiness. Yet it was in filmmaking or more broadly storytelling that really seemed to capture Erik. He could see that this medium could house all of the desires Erik had grown to love in life. For Erik, filmmaking, and all of its similar forms of today,  eg. content creation, and traditional cinema is where Erik finds himself after twenty-plus years. 

It’s the delivery of information regardless of the subject, eg. physics, revolutions, or narrative tales in the genre of the old Twilight zone series, Erik finds the intersection of all his skills. Currently, Erik maintains a math series, entitled Fine Mathematics which not only presents math in an artistic setting but also utilizes skills from music and martial arts training to teach students the material by following along. In addition, Erik and his partner at 180 Films run the Beyond Borders series, which are mini-docs on unique and fascinating stores from all over the world. On the film side, Erik and his partner run 180 Films for over twenty years now. This spring 180 Films will release another full-length documentary, Arrowhead, which Erik produced and was the lead editor on the project. 

In 2023 Erik will continue his creative projects on the narrative side by completing stories that range from poignant tales affecting our world to immortal insects that discover the reality of the world beyond their home. In short, Erik has reached a point in life where he is synthesizing both his education and filmmaking talents into one.
